Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Online in Colorado

A Gentle, Evidence-Based Approach to Healing Your Inner World

At Interface Counseling & Training, we provide Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy in Colorado to help you reconnect with the many parts of yourself — the protectors, performers, avoiders, and the parts carrying pain — so healing can unfold from the inside out.

IFS therapy is a compassionate, non-pathologizing approach that understands the mind as a system of “parts,” each with its own emotions, roles, and intentions. By meeting these parts with curiosity, respect, and care, IFS supports deeper self-awareness, emotional balance, and the development of confident self-leadership. This evidence-based therapy helps you create lasting inner harmony and a more grounded, resilient sense of self.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

IFS, developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, is a trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy that helps people access their core Self — the calm, confident, compassionate center within each of us. From this place, we can understand and heal wounded parts that have been carrying burdens of pain, fear, or shame.

Through IFS, you’ll learn to:

  • Identify and understand your internal “parts” and their protective roles

  • Develop compassion toward yourself, even the parts you’ve struggled with

  • Unburden emotional wounds and past trauma safely and gently

  • Cultivate a stronger connection to your Self — the natural leader of your internal system

IFS Parts

In Internal Family Systems (IFS), each person has different parts that work together to protect and manage their inner world. Managers try to stay in control and prevent pain by organizing, planning, or criticizing. Firefighters react quickly to extinguish emotional distress, often through impulsive or numbing behaviors. Exiles carry the deep wounds, fears, and shame from past experiences. At the center is the Self — the calm, compassionate core that leads the system with understanding and balance.

IFS can be a powerful approach for people struggling with:

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Depression and inner criticism

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Perfectionism and people-pleasing

  • Relationship and attachment challenges

  • Emotional dysregulation or burnout

  • Difficulty trusting or connecting with self and others

What IFS Can Help With

Man feeling grounded and whole self integrated online IFS counseling Colorado

At Vinyl Counseling, we integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy with a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach — blending insights from overfocused ADD/ADHD, high sensitivity (HSP), and somatic mindfulness. Our goal is to help you understand how your mind protects you and how those inner patterns show up in your relationships, work, and emotional life.

IFS therapy recognizes that every part of you — even the ones that seem anxious, perfectionistic, or avoidant — has developed to keep you safe. These inner protectors have served you in powerful ways. Together, we’ll gently uncover the wisdom within your system while helping it learn new ways to create balance and peace.

IFS is integrated with mindfulness, attachment theory, somatic awareness, and systems-based approaches, allowing you to experience healing that’s both reflective and embodied. This means we don’t just talk about your parts — we notice how they arise in your body, your relationships, and your daily patterns. Through this process, you learn to relate to yourself with curiosity and compassion rather than control or judgment.

When your internal world feels understood, your external world begins to shift too. You feel calmer, more centered, and better able to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and self-trust.
